Atypical EBV serology – Need to understand

Bonjour,

I am 26 years old and in August 2019 several lumps appeared under my right armpit. I go to my doctor who explains to me that these are lymph nodes. He prescribed me a blood test because he suspected mononucleosis and here are the results of the EBV serology:

Anti corps anti VCA IGG : 676 U/ml positif

Anticorps anti VCA IGM : 42,5 U/ml positif

anticoprs anti EBNA IGG : 600U/ml positif

laboratory conclusion: Atypical serological profile that may correspond to an old EBV infection with the presence of a residual or non-specific iGM.

Doctor’s conclusion: you have mononucleosis, if the lymph nodes do not disappear in 1 month, come back for a check-up.

The lymph nodes are gone and I had no other symptoms except for the EBV serology all the blood test was ok.

But now in August 2022 new lymph nodes appear, a left supraclavicular and another on the left arm. I go back to the doctor who prescribes a blood test and an ultrasound. With the echo one discovers another ganglion under the left armpit. But these three nodes are ok nothing to worry regarding they are benign. However, the results concerning EBV serology are strange:

Anti corps anti VCA IGG : 750 U/ml positif

Anticorps anti VCA IGM : 55,5 U/ml positif

anticoprs anti EBNA IGG : 600U/ml positif

The conclusion of the laboratory is the same as 4 years ago, i.e.: Atypical serological profile which may correspond to an old infection by EBV with the presence of a residual or non-specific iGM

The rest of the blood test is still ok only the EBV serology is strange and this time if I feel pressure in my chest and shortness of breath for several months.

my doctor is currently on leave, do you have any explanations for these results? Also I don’t understand the terms atypical and non-specific… can you explain to me please?

Thank you
