Vienna (OTS) The pointed political talk “Aktuell: Die Woche” with moderator Meinrad Knapp, Political consultant Thomas Hofer and pollsters Peter Hajek now always reviews the political week on Fridays. “Current: The Week” is broadcast every Friday at 6:00 p.m. on PULS 24, at 10:20 p.m. on ATV and on Austria’s SuperStreamer Joyn. Among other things, the results of Peter Hajek’s current opinion survey will be discussed. He surveyed 500 Austrians: “Should border controls be carried out once more in Austria?”

At 64 percent, the majority of respondents, representative of the Austrian population, have a positive attitude towards border controls in Austria. 81 percent of FPÖ voters and 76 percent of ÖVP voters are in favor of controls on Austria’s neighboring countries. 62 percent of SPÖ voters can get used to border controls. The group opposing controls is largest among SPÖ supporters at 30 percent, compared to the blue (17 percent) and black (21 percent) voter groups.

Pollster Peter Hajek: “The idea of ​​a free Europe was destroyed in 2015. People are now growing up for whom border controls are completely normal once more and the longer this situation lasts, the more those who knew a Europe with the Iron Curtain will get used to it.”
