Vienna (OTS) – ATV-Moderator Meinrad KnappPolicy advisor Thomas Hofer and pollsters Peter Hajek review the political events of the week on Sunday. Among other things, the results of Peter Hajek’s current opinion poll will be discussed. He interviewed 800 Austrians: “Which two issues should politicians focus on at the moment, and where does something urgently need to be done?”
The rising cost of living continues to cause major problems for the Austrian population in times of crisis. It is therefore not surprising that there is an urgent mandate for politicians to take countermeasures here. 61 percent of those surveyed see them combating inflation as the most important issue that politicians should address. The ever-increasing costs are causing problems for the population during the long-standing crisis phase, because in April last year it was the most urgent issue for 57 percent of those surveyed. In second place, at some distance, is the Securing the energy supply with 34 percent. In October (49 percent) and April 2022 (42 percent), Austrians were even more worried regarding this. The topic refugees and integration becomes more important to people over the course of the last year. A year ago, 17 percent saw a need for action on the subject, in April 2023 the figure was already 28 percent. Measures once morest climate change are ranked just behind the topic of immigration with 27 percent. The fight once morest corruption (14 percent) and that Management of the corona pandemic (2 percent) play an ever smaller role for the respondents.
Pollster Peter Hajek: “Basically, the mood is very stable. Inflation is the dominant topic, the security of supply when it comes to energy is slowly losing its terror, in contrast to the topic of refugees and integration, which is slowly but steadily increasing.”
