First of all, in smartphones with an Android system, make sure that they are higher than version 4.1, since this and previous versions will not be compatible. In the case of iPhone, WhatsApp will work only if they have versions from iOS 10 onwards. This is reported by the official website of the platform.
To check which version each model has, you have to go into settings (or configuration), then select the ‘system’ option and there you will find the latest software update installed.
