BFMTV said that the fire was specifically in the SNCF internet cables and information transmission cables, indicating that the fires were in three points of the high-speed train movement, which are the areas far from Paris, south of Courtalain, north of Croisilles Arras, and east of Pagny sur Moselle.
Eurostar said its services between London and Paris were disrupted by “coordinated malicious activity in France. As a result, on the high-speed train line between Paris and Lille, all high-speed trains to and from Paris are being diverted onto the classic line today, Friday, July 26. This increases the journey time by about an hour and a half,” noting that “many trains have been cancelled.”
Swiss Railways also reported that train traffic to France has not been affected so far.
But 800,000 passengers were affected by the attacks on France’s high-speed rail network.
Belgian railways said trains from Paris would be delayed by about 90 minutes throughout the day.
French police are investigating the vandalism on the high-speed train network, while the Paris police chief said, “We will send security reinforcements to crowded train stations.”
The acts of sabotage coincide with the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games today, Friday, in the French capital, Paris, which will continue until August 11, amid tight security measures, as large parts of the city have been cordoned off, with Olympic sites, train stations and tourist attractions guarded by armed officers, including anti-terrorism units and the army.
