Attack in English-speaking Cameroon, five gendarmes killed

An attack by English-speaking separatists in western Cameroon left five gendarmes dead and two seriously injured. The attack was claimed by a militia leader who calls himself “General No Pity” – the “General without pity”. Our correspondent Marcel Amoko tells us more.

It is an area that has become a sanctuary for Boko Haram jihadists and other terrorist groups: the Lake Chad area. They are now under pressure from the joint force between Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and Niger. Several hundred terrorists were killed in operations launched at the end of March. The teachers’ strike in Togo is taking a worrying turn. After the protest movement last March, a hundred teachers were dismissed or revoked. They are 8 in prison. The authorities accuse them of “acts of incitement to violence, disobedience and revolt”. Report by Emmanuelle Sodji.
