(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Dongchan Kim = The men’s professional tennis (ATP) tour announced that it “welcomes” the decision of the Australian court on the 10th that allowed Novak Djokovic (Serbia) to enter the country.

In a statement on the Melbourne Court Judgment released on the 11th, the ATP Tour said, “We welcome the Australian Court’s decision on the 10th and look forward to the tennis tournament in the coming weeks.”

Djokovic arrived in Australia on the 5th to participate in the Australian Open tennis tournament that kicked off in Melbourne, Australia on the 17th, but was virtually imprisoned in a quarantine facility in Melbourne until the afternoon of the 10th because he did not receive a visa from the Australian government.

Djokovic’s visa to enter Australia was canceled because he did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which is mandatory for people entering Australia.

Djokovic explained that he had come to Australia with a vaccination exemption permit, but the Australian government countered that Djokovic was not included in the vaccination exemption permit.

On the 10th, an Australian federal court upheld Djokovic’s hand, but the Australian government said the Australian government is considering revoking Djokovic’s visa and deportation at the authority of the immigration minister.

In response to this situation, ATP Tour said, “Djokovic was trying to get a vaccination waiver in order to follow the entry procedure into Australia.

ATP also mentioned the fact that Australia has strictly enforced immigration control in order to implement a strong quarantine policy after the outbreak of COVID-19. I came to realize that a clearer understanding and communication are needed more.”

Unlike Djokovic, who refuses to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the ATP also said that it is recommending that players get vaccinated.

The ATP Tour strongly recommends that players vaccinate, emphasizing that the vaccine is a necessary part of the global pandemic of COVID-19.

The ATP Tour revealed that 97% of the current top 100 players in the world have been vaccinated.
