ATP Masters: Ruud beats Auger-Aliassime to start – rts.ch

Casper Ruud (ATP 4) started the ATP Masters in Turin in the best possible way. The Norwegian created a relative surprise by dominating Félix Auger-Aliassime (6) 7-6 (7/4) 6-4

In a very austere match, between two tense players and committing many faults, no break point had to be defended in the 1st set, finally won by Ruud in the decisive game.

The French Open and US Open finalist gave himself the 1st chance to win his opponent’s serve in the seventh game of the second set and did not miss the opportunity to break away 4-3 then confirm 5-3.

Despite his serve (14 aces) Auger-Aliassime committed too many unforced errors (26 in total) to threaten Ruud and finally lost in 1h51. The second match of the 1st day of the tournament which brings together the 8 best players of the season will oppose from 9:00 p.m. the other two players of the Green group: the Spaniard Rafael Nadal (2) and the American Taylor Fritz (9).
