ATP > Di Pasquale reacts to Federer’s comments on Zverev: “I think we are too harsh towards him”

“I see someone who plays way too defensively in important moments. He has to remember not to be too passive and I think then something really great can happen to him.”Roger Federer recently said about Alexander Zverev during the seventh edition of the Laver Cup last weekend in Berlin.

At the microphone ofEurosport, the former 39th Arnaud Di Pasquale commented on the Swiss maestro’s statement by being more nuanced on the case of the German player, still looking for his first Grand Slam title.

“I think we are quite hard on him. He is number 2 in the world, so basically, to do better is to be number 1. We are too harsh towards him. He is still there and I think he is progressing. I think he’s moving forward even if we see him falling back into his old ways. It’s true that in important moments, he has difficulty really going there, letting go, freeing himself as he can do when there is a little less pressure. But overall, I find that since his injury at Roland‐Garros, he is still more offensive, he goes for points more. It’s certain that naturalness sometimes comes back and it’s in these moments where the difference must be made to win major titles”
