[의학신문·일간보사=김현기 기자] It is noteworthy that the study results showed that patients with atopic dermatitis, a chronic skin disease, have a high risk of contracting skin infections such as warts.
The Department of Dermatology, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Catholic University of Korea, Lee Ji-hyeon (co-corresponding author) ‧ Han Ju-hee (co-first author) professor team collaborated with Kwangwoon University School of Business Administration Seok-jun Lee (co-corresponding author) ‧ Researcher Jae-woong Yoon (co-first author) for sequential correlation analysis ( The relationship between atopic dermatitis and skin infection was analyzed in an actual medical environment using sequential pattern mining (SPM).
According to the research team, in previous studies, it is known that patients with atopic dermatitis have an abnormality in epidermal function or systemic immune function, or the risk of skin infection increases due to a decrease in the antibacterial peptide, a biological defense material.
Accordingly, the research team used the National Health Insurance data from 2010 to 2013 to identify the accompanying skin infections and the onset time of 70,205 atopic dermatitis patients using SPM.
As a result of multiple regression analysis (statistical analysis), the results of multiple regression analysis (statistical analysis) showed that, compared to healthy controls, patients with atopic dermatitis had contagious warts 5.273 times, impetigo 2.852 times, chickenpox 2.251 times, otitis media 1.748 times, and eczema herpes (herpetic dermatitis) 1.292 times. , was analyzed to have a 1.105 times higher risk of infection with viral warts.
In particular, the SPM analysis showed the highest prevalence rate of contagious mucous membrane accompanying atopic dermatitis at 1.06%, and was observed as the shortest time of onset following being infected on average 77.42 days following the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis.
Professor Han Joo-hee said, “This study suggests that atopic dermatitis is associated with an increased risk of skin infections. In particular, caution is necessary because it is highly related to impetigo, infectious mucous membranes, and otitis media.
Professor Lee Ji-hyun also emphasized, “Skin infections accompanying atopic dermatitis patients are more extensive and more severe than healthy people, making it difficult to treat. did.
Meanwhile, the results of this study were published in the June issue of the Journal of Clinical Medicine (5-Year Impact Factor: 5.098).
