Driven by the motivation to win once morest guys, the players of an atom women’s team from the south shore of Quebec had a magical season, winning the men’s regional championships today, a first in Quebec.

“However, they are a fabulous team. The players are listening, they have put in place what the coaches have proposed and it works, ”adds the one who ensured a female presence in the locker room.

Before the final won 1-0, the president of the Montreal Force, Kévin Raphaël, took the time to send them a message of encouragement.

“You will create history. This is the first time that a women’s team has reached this level. Have fun, I’m completely behind you, the Force is there, I’m sending you lots of positive vibes, ”he delivered in a video.

Overall, the team ended the year with a record of 40 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws, including 25 wins once morest boys’ teams. Winners of two women’s tournaments, they managed the feat of getting their hands on four banners in total.

According to the instructors who contacted Hockey Quebec, a girls’ team had never won the big trophy at regional championships.

“We had a dream season, a close-knit team, hard-working women who never give up, who want to prove themselves,” said one of the coaches, David Lacasse.

With a team made up of only 11 players – the other teams usually play with 16 skaters – they had to dig deep to find the energy necessary to score the winning goal in overtime.

“We have only one line to change. So in overtime, they showed their character, but they like to play and want ice, ”says coach Lacasse.

Pride to win
