Two brothers, aged 11 and 13, died from lightning strikes, this Sunday, in the commune of Cusse, municipality of Caconda, province of Huíla, as a result of the rain that fell in the locality.
The spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB) of Huíla, sub-inspector-firefighter Teresa Abel, said it was a boy and a girl, and that the incident also caused the injuries of five other people, from one to 25 years.
According to Angop, the SPCB officer stated that among the injured was also the mother of the minors and three other siblings of the fatal victims. The injured, following being struck by lightning in their residence, were all evacuated to the Caconda municipal hospital.
He stated that the incident occurred when the victims were inside a residence, in the village of Cajongo, Nova Monção sector, which is 45 kilometers from the municipal headquarters, when they were surprised by the atmospheric discharge, citing statements from the owner of the residence, a of the victims of the incident. The most obvious case of atmospheric discharge in the municipality occurred last November, where 11 people died and three were injured.
