Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Club Atletico Madrid condemned the behavior of its fans, who hung a doll simulating a “hanged man” bearing the shirt of Real Madrid striker, Brazilian Vinicius Junior, on a bridge in the Spanish capital.
Atletico fans raised a banner next to the doll, which read: “Madrid hates Real Madrid.” This came after the two teams faced each other in the quarter-finals of the King’s Cup.
And Atletico Madrid club issued a statement on its official website, in which it said: “Such acts are completely abhorrent and unacceptable, and society feels shame,” adding: “Our condemnation of any act that affects the dignity of people or institutions is our unequivocal and explicit condemnation. like that”.
And the club continued: “No individual, whatever his intentions or colors, can pollute the coexistence between the different fans.”
For its part, Real Madrid commented on what the fans of its rival had done against the team’s striker, as it said in a statement: “We express our strong condemnation of things that violate the basic rights and dignity of people, and which have nothing to do with the values represented by football and sports.”
“The Meringue” continued: “Those actions, such as those that our player is suffering from now, or those that any athlete can suffer from, cannot have a place in a society like ours,” stressing: “Real Madrid is confident that all those responsible will be held accountable.” and participants in these despicable acts.”
The 22-year-old Brazilian striker was previously subjected to racist abuse from Atletico Madrid fans.
