Atlético Madrid eliminate Manchester United, Jan Vertonghen and Benfica surprise Ajax

This Tuesday evening, two matches of the knockout stages of the Champions League took place.

Manchester United-Atlético Madrid 0-1

After a good start to the game, Atlético even thought they would open the scoring, but Felix’s goal was disallowed for offside (34′). And by dint of being dangerous, the Rojiblancos were finally going to make the decision. Well served by Griezmann at the far post. Renan Lodi transformed the offering with a header (41st), 0-1. Manchester United will react, but Oblak would divert a powerful shot from Fernandes (45th +1) then capture a complicated ball in the air (45th +2).

In the second half, the Red Devils will push, but Oblak came out on top once morest Cristiano Ronaldo (76th) and his team. Final score (0-1). Atlético qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Ajax-Benfica 0-1

Manhandled by Ajax, Benfica and Jan Vertonghen held on before crucifying the Dutch at the end of the game on a header from Darwin Núñez. The Lancers failed to capitalize on their many chances and conceded a goal late in the game with a Darwin Núñez header (77th), 0-1. Benfica advance to the quarter-finals.
