Dubai: Despite his busy business life, Atlas Ramachandran has continued his association with art, literature and cinema. Apart from making films like Vaishali, which created a stir in Malayalam cinema, his film distribution company distributed films like Yaya, Kauravar, Vengalam and Chakoram. He also directed a movie called Holy Days. Attention was paid to organizing Aksharshloka audiences in Dubai and Thrissur.
Ramachandran Commerce was born on July 31, 1942 at Madhukara Muthetada, Thrissur to Kamalaka Menon and Rugminiamma.
An officer in Canara Bank and later SBT, he resigned in the 1970s and went to the Gulf. He started working in a bank in Kuwait. But in the late eighties, he quit his job and started gold trading. Thus the seed of the renowned firm Atlas Jewelery Group was sown. When Iraq invaded Kuwait, he shifted the headquarters of his jewelery business to Dubai. Later, the industry witnessed the big boom of Atlas.
Ramachandran’s arrest and imprisonment comes when the group’s activities are going well. Ramachandran believed that some people who were jealous of his growth were behind the incident. He said that the problems were caused by the sudden denial of the loan by two banks that had guaranteed loans to Ramachandran, who was constantly doing loan transactions with various banks in the Gulf and India.
He was incarcerated in Aweer Jail, Dubai. Loneliness was what troubled Ramachandran the most during his imprisonment. He later said that the switch of life had to be turned off once in a while.
