Atlanta Hawks Secure All-Star Dejounte Murray in Trade with the San Antonio Spurs

According to media reports, the Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs have agreed on a trade by Dejounte Murray. The All-Star strengthens the Hawks’ backcourt around Trae Young, but the Spurs get a lot of unprotected draft picks in return.

Danilo Gallinari moves to San Antonio in exchange for Murray, but the main prize for the Spurs in this trade is three future first-round picks.

San Antonio receives a top-16 protected first-round pick from the 2023 Hornets and the 2025s, and the Hawks’ 2027 first rounder, each unprotected. In addition, the Spurs have the opportunity to swap their own pick with that of the Hawks in the 2026 draft.

While San Antonio will probably focus on a rebuild following the trade of what is probably the team’s best player, the Hawks want to take the next step with the young all-star duo Murray and Young in the backcourt. Young is said to be loud Yahoo Sports to be “excited” regarding this trade.

The 25-year-old Murray posted career highs in almost every category last season (21.1 points, 9.2 assists, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals at 46.2 percent from the field and 32.7 percent of downtown) and is also considered an excellent defender. Murray has a team-friendly contract that will see him earn a total of $34.3 million over the next two seasons.
