The Atlanta Hawks have learned their lesson and don’t want to repeat the mistakes of their recent past. Last year they weren’t too hesitant to offer extensions to Kevin Huerter and John Collins, but this time it seems different. This summer the one who is eligible to extend his contract rookie is De’Andre Hunter, who only has one year left. However, the position of the Hawks is quite different from that of the player’s agents. Right now the negotiation is stalled.
As detailed by Jake Fischer in your last article for Bleacher Report, these differences amount to around twenty million of the total multiannual sum. Hunter and his representatives have come up with the recent signing of Keldon Johnson as an example of his demands. The one of the Spurs has agreed with San Antonio 80 million dollars for four years. Which would put Atlanta’s offer at regarding $60 million for the same amount of time. The figure would be below the contract they signed with Kevin Huerter in 2021.
Although it is unknown why they offer so low, it is expected that this figure is due to the little physical continuity that Hunter has shown since his arrival in the NBA. About to start his fourth season in the league, the player has only played a total of 139 regular league games. An average of 46 games per season in which he has averaged 13.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in 30 minutes of play per night.
