New direct connection
:
It will soon be possible to fly directly to the USA once more from Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf Delta Airlines will resume a connection from Düsseldorf next spring, which last existed three years ago. The economy, the city, the state and the airport had made intensive efforts to achieve this.
The airline Delta Airlines is resuming the direct connection from Düsseldorf to Atlanta (USA), which has been suspended for several years. From May 2023 there will once more be three flights a week to the busiest airport in the world – on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Return flights from there to Düsseldorf are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There are numerous onward connections from Atlanta.
“This is good news for Düsseldorf as a business location,” said Lord Mayor Stephan Keller: “Many companies have told us that the direct connection to the Atlanta hub is very important for them. The same applies to US companies that are economically active here in the region and want to promote their European business from here.”
The connection was abandoned in spring 2020; since then there have been intensive efforts by the airport, the city and business to have it resumed. Two major business surveys were also launched to explore the importance of the connection for the site.
The President of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Andreas Schmitz, was correspondingly pleased with the resumption of the connection: “For the companies in Düsseldorf and in the Mettmann district, the direct flights mean planning security and stability for their US business.”
The head of NRW foreign trade promotion, Felix Neugart, also emphasizes the importance of direct flights to the USA for NRW. With more than 1700 companies, the USA is one of the most important economic partners in the country and secures more than 180,000 jobs here.
The Delta flight to Atlanta will currently be the only direct scheduled connection from Düsseldorf Airport to the USA. There used to be direct flights from the NRW state capital to New York, Las Vegas, Fort Myers and Miami.
