AN airport was evacuated following a bomb threat caused travel chaos for travelers over the Easter weekend.
Law enforcement temporarily evacuated the South Terminal at Hartfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday morning following receiving reports of a suspicious package.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, a K-9 reported the bag in the South Terminal.
The bag is isolated by officials until it is inspected and deemed safe.
No injuries were reported.
In a statement, the airport addressed the incident, saying: “Officials are responding to a report of a suspicious package at the South Terminal.
“As a precaution, the affected area is cordoned off while the authorities investigate. »
The package was deemed safe and the terminal was given the green light to resume operations approximately one hour following the evacuation.
FLIGHTS IN EXTREME WEATHER
The evacuation comes following all flights were grounded on Thursday night following severe thunderstorms in the area.
The extreme weather is expected to continue as thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected to hit Atlanta and Jackson on Good Friday evening.
Showers and possible thunderstorms will continue until Saturday morning and into the night.
Atlanta residents will enjoy a dry Easter morning, but wet weather will return by noon and extend well into the evening.
