How to activate the filter to block sensitive content on Instagram

Sensitive content on Instagram does not violate the network’s rules, but it can cause discomfort for a certain group of people, presenting images or videos considered offensive, violent or sexually suggestive.

That is, a video with people fighting, wearing transparent clothing or undergoing aesthetic procedures, for example, can raise the flag of sensitive content; although they do not violate any community rules.

To help block this type of content for certain groups, Instagram provides a tool to filter posts. With it, depending on the setting defined, the user will start to see publications of this type under the sensitive content warning. From then on, seeing them or not becomes a choice.

Check out how to adjust the tool to block sensitive content below:

  • With your profile open on the social network app, tap the settings menu in the top right corner;
  • Slide the new menu down and tap “Content suggestions”;
  • On the new screen, tap “Sensitive content“;
  • Now select a filter setting: “Standard”, “More” or “Less”. We explain each of the options in more detail below;
  • Confirm the change in the next pop-up.

Instagram defines three levels for the filter to work: Plus, Standard and Minus. While the “More” option allows network users to see more sensitive accounts and content, the “Less” option is the opposite. The “Default” option, as the name suggests, is the default state of the network, which prevents people from seeing some content and accounts.

Teenagers under 18 cannot activate the “More” option.

The setting applied determines the amount of sensitive content that will be displayed in the Explore tab, in Reels, in the social network feed and also in Threads. Content control also affects the comments you see on other people’s posts.

Until now, it is not possible to block all sensitive content on Instagramas something may eventually cross the social network’s radar. In any case, when you see content that you don’t like, you can block the theme, keyword, emoji or hide the publication itself. But that’s a topic for another tutorial.

**Interview with Social Media Expert, ‌Emma ⁤Johnson**

**Editor:** Welcome, Emma! ⁢Today, we’re discussing Instagram’s new tool that allows users to filter sensitive content. Can‌ you explain ⁣why this feature⁢ is important in today’s social media landscape?

**Emma Johnson:** Thank you for having me! This feature ⁤is essential because social media ‍can be a double-edged sword. While it connects people and offers a wealth of information, it can also expose users to content that may be triggering or ⁤uncomfortable. By giving users control over what ⁤they see, ‍Instagram acknowledges the diverse sensitivities of its audience.

**Editor:** Absolutely. For ‌those unfamiliar, could you walk⁣ us through the steps to activate this content filter?

**Emma Johnson:** Of course! ⁣First, open your Instagram profile⁢ and tap the settings menu⁣ in the top⁤ right corner. Then, scroll down to “Content suggestions” and select‌ “Sensitive content.” ⁤From there, you’ll see options for the filter: “Standard,” “More,” or “Less.” Choose the level that suits your needs and confirm your selection. It’s straightforward and can be adjusted anytime.

**Editor:** That sounds simple enough! ⁢Can you⁣ elaborate‌ on the different filter levels and what users might expect‍ from ⁤each setting?

**Emma Johnson:** Sure! The “More”⁤ setting allows‍ users to see more sensitive ⁤content, ‌which‍ is suitable for those who are less concerned about exposure. The “Standard” option balances visibility and ⁤sensitivity, showing a moderate amount ‌of ⁣sensitive posts. the “Less” setting significantly limits that type⁣ of content, ideal for individuals seeking a more curated and peaceful feed.

**Editor:**‌ It sounds like a thoughtful way for ⁣Instagram to enhance‌ user experience. Do you think this feature will impact how users engage⁤ with the platform?

**Emma Johnson:** Definitely.⁤ By providing this⁢ level of control, users may feel ‍safer and more comforted‌ when using the app. It encourages a healthier ‌social media environment where individuals can choose to engage without the fear of‌ encountering distressing content unexpectedly.

**Editor:**‍ This is ⁤such ⁣a timely feature. As we see more conversations about mental health and online well-being, especially among young users, how can tools like this contribute?

**Emma Johnson:** They play a crucial ⁤role. Sensitive content can evoke strong reactions, which may not be conducive ⁢to mental well-being. By allowing ‍users⁤ to filter what they see, platforms‌ like Instagram help users manage their online experiences, ultimately promoting healthier⁤ habits and encouraging ⁣positive interactions with social media.

**Editor:** Thank you, Emma, for sharing your ⁣insights on this important update from Instagram. It’s clear that user-centric features like these can really empower individuals in their social media journeys.

**Emma Johnson:** Thank you ‌for having me! It’s an important topic that deserves ongoing ‍attention as social media ‍continues ⁣to evolve.
