The Swiss women’s 4x100m relay completely failed in the final of the Eugene Worlds. Géraldine Frey, Mujinga Kambundji, Salomé Kora and Ajla Del Ponte had to settle for a disappointing 7th place, with a modest time of 42”81.
While the quality of the handovers was the key element in the progression of the Swiss relay, Géraldine Frey, Mujinga Kambundji, Salomé Kora and Ajla Del Ponte sinned in this area. The last transmission was fatal, with Ajla Del Ponte even having to slow down to grab the stick in bounds.
The title went to the Americans, who were 4 hundredths ahead of the Jamaican sprint queens, in 41″14. Germany created a surprise by adorning themselves with bronze (42″03).
Among the men, Canada created a surprise. In 37″48, the Canadians led by Andre de Grasse narrowly edged the United States of Noah Lyles (37″55), the United Kingdom taking bronze in 37″83.
