Before the final of 3,000 hurdles, Tuesday’s day was marked by two sensational finalsthe men’s high jump and the women’s 1,500 with the Italian Gianmarco Tamberi (2.36 meters) and the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (3:54.87).

Tamberi surpassed the bar by 2.36 meters in the first and Harrison did it in the second. That’s where it all ended. The North American missed all three attempts at 2.38 and the transalpine left the last one for 2.40… but it was part of the show. He went under the bar and disguised himself as Pietro Mennea to run like a man possessed.

The rest was bullshit. Tamberi celebrated it as the occasion deserved and he camouflaged himself among the thousand or so Italians who encouraged him from the beginning. He went up to the stands, sang, danced and the party was great. More than deserved. Great of Italy!
The other star was the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, great favorite in about 1,500 meters as it is one of the three tests in which he has set a world record this season (the others are the mile and the 5,000… the other test that he will run in Budapest.
