The Italian reigned in the high jump with 2.36 meters and the Kenyan was the strongest in the ‘milqui’

The American Tausaga gave the surprise in the discus final against her compatriot Allman

Before the final of 3,000 hurdles, Tuesday’s day was marked by two sensational finalsthe men’s high jump and the women’s 1,500 with the Italian Gianmarco Tamberi (2.36 meters) and the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (3:54.87).

That the march is going for Tamberi is so true like he is a sensational competitor who always gives his best in competitions, when it has to be done. This Tuesday he has appeared with half a shaved face and the other half with a beard.

And the two-time European champion and current Olympic champion gave away a sensational contest in which he knew how to play with the attempts to end the resistance of the American JuVaughn Harrison, that prodigy of nature capable of jumping 2.36 high and 8.47 long.

Tamberi surpassed the bar by 2.36 meters in the first and Harrison did it in the second. That’s where it all ended. The North American missed all three attempts at 2.38 and the transalpine left the last one for 2.40… but it was part of the show. He went under the bar and disguised himself as Pietro Mennea to run like a man possessed.

The rest was bullshit. Tamberi celebrated it as the occasion deserved and he camouflaged himself among the thousand or so Italians who encouraged him from the beginning. He went up to the stands, sang, danced and the party was great. More than deserved. Great of Italy!

The other star was the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, great favorite in about 1,500 meters as it is one of the three tests in which he has set a world record this season (the others are the mile and the 5,000… the other test that he will run in Budapest.

Despite Sifan Hassan’s threat, The African controlled the race perfectly and she had enough and she had enough with an extraordinary change to the penultimate step by goal to achieve her third gold in the last four World Cups with 3:54.87… and in Doha she was silver because she arrived with just two months of training after being a mother. The Ethiopian Welteji finished second (3:55.69) and the Dutch Hassan, third (3:56.00).

In the other final on Tuesday, a surprise and one of the greats in the women’s discus throw. The Hawaiian Laulauga Tausaga hung her first big gold with a personal best (69.49), relegating her compatriot and great favorite Valarie Allman (69.23) to silver with the Chinese Bin Feng third (68.29).

In the women’s 400m hurdles semifinals, la neerlandesa Femke Bol offered a sensational image two days after his fiasco in the 4×400 meters, when he squandered a three-meter advantage in the last relay and went to the ground, letting the baton slip away. The queen of the return to the track at the European level trotted in to accredit her second best mark with 52.95, only behind the American Shamier Little with 52.81 (the only one that could overshadow her in the absence of Sydney McLaughlin).

In the ‘semis’ of 400 masculine smooth an exceptional circumstance took place with the Serious injury to one of the great favourites, the Bahamian Steven Gardiner (gold in Doha 2019). The great protagonist was the British Mathew Hudson-Smith with an extraordinary 44.26 that helped him to destroy the old European record of the democratic German Schönlebe (44.33 since 1987).
