Audrey Werro won silver in the 800m at the U20 Worlds in Cali. The 18-year-old from Friborg went under 2 minutes for the first time on Wednesday in the final.
European U20 champion over the distance last year and holder of the 3rd best time among the entries, Audrey Werro (18 years old) achieved 1’59”53 to improve by 0”75 her personal best which was also already the Swiss U20 record. Only American Roisin Willis (17) was faster, winning gold in 1’59”13, a new Championship record.
Audrey Werro thus offers Switzerland the 15th medal in its history in the U20 Worlds, one year following the raid of the Nairobi Worlds (4 podiums), disputed it is true in the absence of great nations like the United States and the Britain.

Above all, the CA Belfaux prodigy is already the 4th fastest Swiss woman of all time over the distance, behind Selina Rutz-Büchel (1’57”95), Lore Hoffmann (1’58”50) and Sandra Gasser (1’58”90), and only the 6th to go under 2 minutes. She will hardly have time to celebrate this medal since she will compete in the elite Europeans in a few days in Munich (August 15-21).
