The Pakistan Sports Board has sought a response from the Athletics Federation of Pakistan, taking notice of the unauthorized visit to the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship held in India.
A team consisting of twelve players and four officials participated in the international event held in Chennai (Madras), the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. Pakistan failed to win a single medal out of 90 in the event.
The Athletics Federation did not even take NOC for permission to visit a country like India, on which the Pakistan Sports Board has started questioning the Athletics Federation about the team’s visit to India without NOC.
The Pakistan Sports Board, in a letter sent to Athletics Federation Secretary Shah Jahan Mir, clarified that no NOC was taken for the team’s departure to India for the Junior Athletics Championship, which is in violation of Article 7 of the PSB Constitution. It is a clear violation of the section.
The letter said that the federation had sent a contingent to India in an international sports event without obtaining the mandatory NOC from the government, to which the athletics federation should submit its written response.
It is worth noting that India has even stricter rules when it comes to participating in any sporting event. The concerned federation has to obtain NOC from intelligence agencies and concerned ministries before undertaking such a visit.
