Nico Williams (22), the Spanish national team forward who plays for Athletic Bilbao (Spanish first division), is reportedly hoping to move to Barcelona (Spanish first division).
Nico, whose brother is Ghana national team striker Inaki Williams, came from Athletic’s youth academy and made his debut for the first team in April 2021. Like his brother, he has outstanding speed and dribbling skills, scoring 8 goals and 19 assists in 37 official matches last season.
Nico, who contributed greatly to Spain’s victory at Euro 2024 this summer, has attracted interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG/French first division). However, after joining Atlétic’s training, he commented on the club’s official SNS, “Everything is going well. I’m looking forward to the start. I’m ready. I’m really looking forward to this season. Let’s go, Athletic,” which led to the view that he would remain this summer.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Nico has given the green light to join Barcelona this summer, with the club putting together the necessary plans to raise the funds and believing they can complete the deal within the next week, although it will not be an easy operation.
Barcelona, who acquired Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo from Leipzig this summer, will have to assume that they will have to pay the release clause of 58 million euros (approximately 9.29 billion yen) in order to acquire Nico. Barcelona is doing its best to acquire the player as it builds a winning team, but will their wish come true?
