Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Triadi Machmudin, said that athlete development was the key to the success of West Java’s hat trick as overall champion of the National Sports Week (PON) after being confirmed as champion at PON 2024.

In PON 2024, West Java emerged as champion after collecting 195 gold medals, 163 silver medals and 182 bronze medals, but Bey also reminded that this achievement must be continued on the international stage.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the athletes, coaches, officials, managers up to KONI and the ranks for their dedication and hard work at PON XXI. Serious training is one of our keys and this is evenly distributed in all sports, all equally. And I ask that not only “at national events (achievements), but also international and world events as well,” said Bey as reported by Antara, Saturday (21/9).

Apart from that, Bey also said that the West Java Provincial Government will prepare bonuses for 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra PON medal winners. The amount is around IDR 300 million for individual gold medals, while team sports will be adjusted.

“IDR 300 million in gold for individual athletes. What is important for us is what we want to do after this. Don’t be complacent about national achievements, we must improve further on the ASEAN, Asian and Olympic stages,” said Bey.

Bey hopes that after successfully becoming the overall champion of the Aceh-North Sumatra PON, West Java athletes will continue to hone their capacity and capabilities as best as possible to achieve higher achievements, especially in international sports championships.

“We as an Indonesian country must speak more (on stage) at world events,” he said.

The General Chairperson of West Java KONI Muhammad Budiana also said the same thing, according to him, the key to West Java’s success in winning the PON overall championship three times in a row is continuous development in all sports.

“The key to West Java’s success in winning for the third time at PON is the presence of continuous coaching that we carry out,” said Budiana. (Z-6)
