In a surprising step in the Egyptian artistic community, Athar Al-Hakim (1958) announced her final retirement from acting following an artistic career that lasted nearly 35 years. In media statements, the Egyptian actress confirmed the news of her leaving art, saying, “I quit acting, programs, press meetings, and all forms of being in the spotlight.” And she considered that the time had come following her saturation with art, and that she had to “devote herself to worshiping God and thanking Him for the blessings He gave her,” according to her saying. She explained that she has retired from art since 2010, but she did not officially announce this to the public, because she saw that she was saturated with art through the roles that she presented during her career. On the same bank, Athar Al-Hakim had been absent from participating in any work for 11 years, specifically since she presented the series “The Stringed String” (written by Imad Nafeh and directed by Khaled Bahjat) in 2009. Note that Al-Hakim studied English, before she entered acting by chance. In the year 1976, she was assigned the lead role in the series “Bila Attab” in front of the artist Youssef Shaaban, while her first movie role was through the movie “The Damned” in 1979. In the late eighties of the last century, she became widely known as a star in the cinema, and one of her most important films is “Visiting” Secret” in 1981 in front of the artist Salah Zulfikar, and “Love on the Pyramid Plateau” in 1986 in front of the late artist Ahmed Zaki.
