Atalanta inflicts a harsh defeat on Liverpool in the Europa League

England – The Italian team Atalanta caused a huge surprise, and inflicted a huge loss on its host Liverpool, 3-0, yesterday, Thursday, at Anfield, in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

With this result, the Italian team has taken a big step towards reaching the semi-finals of the competition, as its task has become relatively easy when the two teams meet again next week in the return match in Italy.

The Reds paid the price for the decision of their German coach, Jurgen Klopp, not to include their main stars, Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Hungarian Dominik Soboszlai, Colombian Luis Diaz, and Scottish Andy Robertson, in the starting lineup.

Atalanta’s goals were scored by Gianluca Skamaca (two goals) and Croatian Mario Pasalic in the 38th, 60th, and 83rd minutes, respectively.

In other matches, Roma won the “Italian Summit” match by defeating its host Milan at the “Giuseppe Meazza” Stadium, the stronghold of the “Rossoneri”, with an unanswered goal, scored by international defender Gianluca Mancini in the 17th minute of the match.

Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen continued its strong series of results and defeated its English guest, West Ham, with two unanswered goals scored by Jonas Hoffmann and Nigerian Victor Boniface in the 83rd and 90th + 1 minutes.

Portuguese Benfica defeated its French guest, Marseille, by two goals to one, as Rafa Silva and Argentine Angel Di Maria scored for the winner in the 16th and 52nd minutes, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for the loser, Gabonese, in the 67th minute.
