Guatemala is in search of its sixth classification for a Futsal World Cup; for it must reach the semifinals of the Concacaf World Cup that is currently being disputed in Nicaragua.
On April 15, the Guatemalan team led by coach Carlos Estrada managed to advance undefeated to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship following drawing 3-3 once morest the United States. This result allowed Guatemala to finish the group stage as leader of Group C and was tied once morest Mexico.
To qualify for the 2024 World Cup in Uzbekistan, Guatemala needs a win once morest the Aztec team, whom it has already beaten previously in the World Cup.
If they manage to defeat the Americans, the national team would sign its sixth World Cup participation in futsal following the editions of 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021.
The vital duel once morest Mexico will be on Wednesday, April 17 at 4 p.m. at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center in Managua, Nicaragua.
In the history of the Futsal Pre-World Cups, the great dominator is the Costa Rica National Team, which has four titles in its showcases (2000, 2012, 2016 and 2021).
In addition to Costa Rica, only two other teams have been able to be crowned champions of the area: the United States (1997, 2004) and Guatemala (2008).
If Guatemala makes it to the semifinals, it will face the winner of the match between Panama and the United States for the ticket to the final, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 at 8 p.m.
The World Cup in Uzbekistan will take place in September 2024 and will feature 24 teams.
