Prince Michael was the last remaining grandson of King George I of the House of Bourbon. He was a first cousin of Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth, and the last great-grandson of Christian IX of Denmark.
He was known for his devotion to his painter wife Marina Karella.

A little later, Queen Sofia of Spain arrived with her sister, Princess Irene.
