At the start of the season over 23,000 fans at Frankfurt’s women against Bayern

A touch of EM euphoria, plus a record crowd – but no goals at the start: Around seven weeks following the “summer fairy tale” of the DFB women, Eintracht Frankfurt and runners-up Bayern Munich opened the new season in front of 23,200 spectators and thus for a record taken care of in the Bundesliga.

At the start of the 33rd season in the Frankfurt World Cup arena, the Munich team had to put up with a slight setback following a poor performance with a 0-0 draw at Eintracht. Before the kick-off, the six German vice European champions from Bavaria around Lina Magull, Giulia Gwinn and Co. and the four European Championship heroines from Frankfurt were also honored.

Krosche to record

“It was super nice, that’s a setting that women’s football wants,” said Gwinn at Eurosport. The previous attendance record in the league was 12,464 spectators in Wolfsburg (June 2014). “That’s just Frankfurt. But the girls deserve it too,” said Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche at Eurosport before the game, looking at the biggest Bundesliga backdrop to date.

Both teams struggled on the field in the first half in front of the national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, chances remained scarce. Bayern Munich under new coach Alexander Straus disappointed following the break, Eintracht made a more active impression.

The goal for this season is clear: The momentum from the successful European Championships in England should be taken into everyday life, with the start on the big stage a trend-setting signal should be set. On Saturday (1 p.m./MagentaSport), double winner VfL Wolfsburg with DFB captain Alexandra Popp will start the new season once morest SGS Essen.
