In order to further strengthen the support of mothers when breastfeeding in the areas of obstetrics and paediatrics, the hospitals of the Innviertel Order Clinic – the St. Josef Braunau Hospital and the Sisters of Mercy in Ried – held a successful four-day advanced training course.

Existing knowledge was expanded from the latest scientific findings on breastfeeding to support in the first few days following birth. In addition, the participants trained, among other things, techniques for the correct attachment and positioning of the baby as well as effective measures to help when breastfeeding is difficult to start.

“The joint training of the two hospitals was a great opportunity for our employees to deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of breastfeeding,” says Primar Gottfried Hasenöhrl, head of the obstetrics department at St. Josef. Breastfeeding plays a crucial role in the healthy development of infants and has both short- and long-term benefits for both mother and child.

In addition, those responsible also emphasize the strong cooperation between the two hospitals in this interdisciplinary training. “In addition to the bundled expertise, the exchange of best practices and experiences between the two houses is important,” says Primary Walter Dirschlmayer from the obstetrics department of the Sisters of Mercy in Ried.
