At the Châtellerault hospital, an immediate care medical center has just opened

It is the second CMSI (Immediate Care Medical Center) to open in Vienne following that of Poitiers inaugurated at the beginning of 2021. Since this Monday, July 4, a liberal doctor and nurse take care of patients in the former vaccination center of Châtellerault hospital. Objective : unclog the emergency department.

At the entrance to the Camille Guérin hospital, brand new signage points the way to visitors. As with every department in the hospital, arrows lead to the parking of the CMSI. In the building, six examination rooms including one dedicated to the production of plasters, a pharmacy and supplies of equipment.

From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., a secretary is in charge of patient entry and exit. For care, a liberal doctor and nurse are mobilized. It’s regarding healing wounds, burns, trauma and various fractures which cannot be taken care of by a city doctor but which do not require a passage to the Vital Emergencies either.

Before going there, it is advisable to dial 15 to be sure of being well directed. Sébastien Tanchoux is the nurse co-responsible for the site: “It allows you to know if the patient’s arrival depends more on general medicine, the CMSI or general emergencies. But if there is ever any doubt regarding the care, if we think we can’t do it on our service, we redirect either to an emergency department or to a general practitioner.

A true cooperation between liberal medicine and the public hospital says the nurse: “We are providing support in the face of the crisis for these emergency services which have to close due to lack of staff. We must see this service as a good thing for the days when the emergencies close.”

In Poitiers, since its opening a year ago, the medical center takes care of a hundred patients each day.
