At the age of 82, actress Raquel Welch, a sex symbol of the 60’s and 70’s, died

Raquel Welch, the actress who was a sex symbol in the 60’s and 70’s, passed away this Wednesday, February 15 at the age of 82, US media reported.

According to relatives, Welch passed away in Los Angeles following a sudden illness.

60 years ago, Welch became one of the most coveted actresses and received recognition for it: a Golden Globe for best actress in a feature film musical or comedy, for her role in The Three Musketeers (1974).

She was named one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in Movie History by Empire magazine in 1995. and also came in at number 3 on a similar list by Playboy magazine of the 100 Sexiest Stars of the 20th Century.

Welch’s family confirmed the death to the celebrity portal TMZ and assured that the death occurred following the actress suffered “a brief illness” of which no further details were given.

The daughter of a Bolivian engineer who moved to the United States, Welch was born in Chicago in 1940. Her path in the entertainment industry began with Elvis Presley with a small role in “Roustregarding” (1964) and would later get jobs with more weight in films like “Fantastic Voyage” (1966).

His career took off with the prehistoric adventure “One Million Years BC” (1966). The image of Welch and her iconic bikini cemented her status as a “sex-symbol” in a tape whose promotional poster went down in movie history. Her beauty and erotic potential were taken advantage of by the industry, which created for her one of the most macho nicknames in Hollywood: “The Body.”

The actress was also part of titles such as “Lady in Cement” (1968), along with Frank Sinatra and some of her most remembered tapes are the western “Hannie Caulder” (1971) and “Fathom” (1967).

Welch was married four times: to James Welch, from whom she took the last name for the rest of her life, Patrick Curtis, Andre Weinfield, and Richard Palmer. She had two children, Tahnee and Damon Welch.
