The Syrian actor and program director, Osama Al-Romani, passed away – at dawn today, Monday – after a heart attack, at the age of 81.
The Syndicate of Syrian Artists mourned the Romanian in a post on Facebook, saying, “The Syndicate of Artists in the Syrian Arab Republic mourns the death of fellow artist Osama al-Romani. For the soul of our deceased, mercy and peace, and for us, you, his family, and his loved ones, sincere condolences, patience, and solace.”
The Syrian artist, Nadine Khoury, expressed her grief over the death of the Romanian, via a post on Facebook, saying, “The respected and humble professor, brother, and artist.. We met in many works, the last of which is Jam Al-Ezz. The news of your departure is sad and surprising.”
For her part, the Syrian artist, Shukran Murtaja, posted on her Facebook page a picture she collected with the late artist, saying, “You will remain in memory, Professor Osama..I was happy to return to Damascus after many years of exile..My condolences to his honorable family and my condolences to our profession that lost one of the great artists.”
The “Imar Al-Sham” artistic production company also called him in a post on Facebook.
Osama Al-Romani was born in Damascus on July 3, 1942, and he is the younger brother of the late actor Hani Al-Romani.
He began his artistic career in 1967 with the series “Alleyah Alleyah”, then participated in the plays “Tishreen Village” in 1974 and “Gharba” in 1976. Then he traveled to Kuwait and participated in the production of the famous children’s programs “Iftah Ya Simsim” and “Your Safety”.
Among his most prominent roles in the Syrian drama is the series “Hammam al-Qishani”, in which he played the role of Colonel Adib al-Shishakli, in addition to many works.
Al-Romani was absent from Syria and the artistic community for many years, to return to participate in important works that achieved views at the local and Arab levels, including “Kharif Omar, Curzon, Sabaya, Hawazek, Breaking Bones.”
The last appearance of the Romanian was during the month of Ramadan, through the character of Abu Alaa in the series “Jam Al-Ezz”, and he also participated during the past year in the series “On Love”, alongside the actor Duraid Lahham.
