“We are all connected, and yet we are separated from one another, numbed by indifference and oppressed by loneliness. So many wars, so many conflicts: it seems incredible what evil man can do,” said the Pope. Several hundred faithful and cardinals sat in pews and chairs around the altar. The Pope seemed in good shape. He had canceled several appointments on Friday because of a fever.

50 days following Easter, Christians celebrate Pentecost and the Easter season comes to an end. It is one of the high festivals in the Catholic church year. The festival commemorates the so-called linguistic miracle at Pentecost. According to biblical tradition, the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and they began to speak in strange tongues. As a result, they became a unit and were able to announce the message of Jesus to other people without language barriers. Pentecost is therefore sometimes referred to as the “Birthday of the Church”.
