Benjamin Mendy, the player of the France team and Manchester City, spoke Monday, fifteen days following the start of his trial in Chester, England.
Although he was acquitted of most charges in January, Mendy still faces allegations of attempted rape and rape by two complainants for incidents that allegedly occurred in 2018 and 2020 at his home in Prestbury. Mendy was questioned by his attorney, Eleanor Laws, regarding the first complainant, who accused him of attempted rape in 2018. Mendy said he met the woman a year earlier while he was with friends at a nightclub overseas and that she had come to his house to see her friend. Mendy claimed to have asked his friend if he might have sex with her, which his friend allegedly agreed to. Mendy said he spoke to the woman following she showered and they got closer in her bedroom. He denied any attempted rape, stating: “At no time did I want to penetrate her or force her to do anything. »
Mendy asked her if she wanted to have sex, but she refused because of her friend. He told him : “It’s good, my friend says it’s good”. Mendy left the room at that time, saw the woman once more a few hours later, and arranged for a driver to take her home. Mendy then discussed the evening with the second plaintiff, who accused him of rape in October 2020. Mendy said she agreed to perform oral sex, but refused to go any further. When asked if he had held her down, forced her onto the bed, or penetrated her vagina or anus, Mendy said « Non ». During his cross-examination by the prosecutor, Mendy admitted that it was not difficult for him to find women to have sex with and that he had ” often “ had unprotected sex.
