At least three dead in Michigan shooting – gunman dead

After shots at the University of Michigan with at least three fatalities, the alleged perpetrator is dead. The man was found with a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” outside the university campus, the police said at a press conference on Tuesday night (local time).

No information was given on the identity of the alleged perpetrator. A motive for the crime is also not known at this time. Police believe the shooter acted alone. There is no longer any danger to the public.

The man opened fire in a hall of the university last night, according to the police. After the first shots, there was a second attack at another location on campus.

Five injured

Five people were taken to a hospital with injuries, some with life-threatening injuries. Several buildings have been evacuated. “Run, hide, fight,” said the university in an initial warning to students and employees. The warning was lifted following the suspected shooter died.

More than 50,000 students attend the University of Michigan, according to the official website. The campus in the city of East Lansing covers more than 21 square kilometers.
