The number of players in Battlefield 2042 is rapidly dwindling. More people are currently playing Battlefield 5, its predecessor, and Battlefield 1 (the predecessor) might soon have more players than the newest offshoot of the shooter franchise. The hassle with the game has led some fans to request refunds. At least one player managed to bypass Steam’s refund policy in order to get their money back.

Reddit user ‘Roboserg’ sent two messages to the Steam customer asking for a refund for Battlefield 2042. The first request was rejected by the PC platform. After all, Roboserg had already played for 4 hours by this time. As the gamer noted, he spent two of the four hours fixing a bug that kept resetting the configuration file.

“The defective condition of the game and its flaws did not allow me to properly test the game, which is why I want to refund the game,” wrote Roboserg. Steam eventually waved the two-hour gameplay flag “as a customer service gesture” and gave the money back to Roboserg. It is currently not known whether more players have been able to request a positive refund for the multiplayer shooter.

Battlefield 2042 Refund: PlayStation players are less fortunate than those on Steam

As stated in the comments in the Reddit post As can be read, PlayStation players who requested a refund from Battlefield 2042 are less fortunate. After all, some of those who bought Cyberpunk 2077 for the PlayStation 4 at the time and got the full amount back have not yet given up hope. Sony is generally considered to be stricter when it comes to refunds.

Battlefield 2042 player counts have taken on worrying effects. According to SteamCharts.com the latest shooter from DICE reaches just over 15,000 players a day. Battlefield 5 has just under 10,000 players on Steam, an increase of almost 600% compared to the previous month.

Actually sad, considering that Steam set new player records over the turn of the year.

The matter went so far that EA’s Communication Director, Andy McNamara, on Twitter said that fans should take a step back. Most of the DICE developers were at home with their families over the holidays. The tweet in question has meanwhile been deleted, but shows the pressure EA and DICE are under to appease the fans once more.

According to Steam’s refund policy, a game can be returned within 14 days of release and with a game time of less than 2 hours. More information on this is provided by the Steam-Support.
