At least five people have died and more than thirty have been injured following a driver ran his vehicle over a crowd celebrating a carnival party in the Belgian town of Strépy-Bracquegniesmunicipality of La Louvière, in the southeast of the country.
The event took place around 05:00 (local time) and the first report provided by the mayor of the municipality, Jacques Gobertspeaks of at least five deaths, 12 seriously injured and twenty wounded.

The death toll from Sunday’s hit-and-run at a Wisconsin Christmas parade has risen to six dead and 62 injured, authorities have confirmed.
“The car crashed at high speed into a crowd and the driver tried to escape from the scenebut it was intercepted”, explained the mayor in statements collected by the Belgian media ‘La Libre’. The Police will shortly give a press conference to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
