At least 57 alleged extortionists are captured in raids in 12 departments
Authorities carried out 81 search procedures for illicit objects and suspected gang members.

He Public ministry (MP) coordinated this Wednesday, March 13, to least 81 raids in various parts of the country in search of alleged extortionists y illegal objects in their possession.
The operations were carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office once morest the Crime of Extortion and agents of the Civil national police.
According to authorities, the objective was to capture alleged Barrio 18 gang members y Mara Salvatruchaas well as individuals involved in other criminal structures.
The departments where the raids were recorded were Guatemala, San Marcos, Quiché, Escuintla, Chimaltenango, Alta Verapaz, Quetzaltenango, Suchitepéquez, Retalhuleu, Jutiapa and Zacapa.

According to him MP, The operation concluded and at least 53 people have been apprehended during the raids.

The capture of two people in flagrante delicto was also reported. In the raided properties, three firearms, 238 firearm cartridges, cell phones and marijuana were located according to field evidence.
