At least 26 dead after heavy snowfall in Afghanistan

In the eastern province of Nuristan, a snow avalanche surprised residents of a village in the middle of the night on Monday and buried numerous houses. According to local authorities, 16 bodies have been recovered so far. There were also missing people following avalanches in the neighboring Panjir province.

According to the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar news agency, heavy snow had caused chaos on the streets in other provinces in the past few days. In Afghanistan, dozens of people die every winter following heavy snowfalls. Many of the mountainous regions are difficult to reach.
