“A security guard from the Wildberries office who was injured during the shooting has died,” the Interfax news agency reported, citing a source at the Russian giant.

The state-run Ria Novosti news agency also reported two casualties, citing a police source, while the boss of Wildberries had announced a little earlier the death of a “security agent (…) after the armed attack.

Wildberries founder and owner Tatiana Bakalchuk, who owns a majority stake in the company, and her estranged husband, Vladislav, who owned a small stake in the company, blamed each other for the incident, which they said happened when a group of people, including Vladislav, arrived at the office.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said it was looking into the incident. According to the company, one person, a Wildberries security guard, was killed.

Three people were injured, including two police officers, RIA reported, citing law enforcement authorities, and nearly 30 were arrested. He did not name anyone involved.

Wildberries announced plans to merge with smaller advertising firm Russ in June, saying the aim was to create a digital trading platform. Vladislav opposed the merger.

Russian media reported that Maxim Oreskin, deputy head of the presidential administration, was appointed to oversee the implementation of the agreement. The Kremlin stressed that the plan had the support of President Putin but would not interfere with its progress.

In late July, Tatiana, who is Russia’s richest woman according to Forbes, said she had filed for divorce from Vladislav.

Today, the company Wildberries and Tatiana stated that a group of armed individuals, led by Vladislav, tried to forcefully enter the premises of the company.

Vladislav said he and his representatives were unarmed and had come to discuss business and that security guards from the merged company, RVB, opened fire on him and his colleagues.

Wildberries emphasized that no meeting with Vladislav was scheduled.

He released video from inside the building showing men arguing at the end of a hallway. Shots are heard in the video. Other footage taken outside the premises and posted on social media showed people running towards the entrance to the sound of gunfire and men brandishing firearms.

The company, which started as an online clothing resale platform, now supplies everything from electronics to cookware, with a turnover of billions of dollars.
