At least 121 flights are to be canceled on Thursday due to a warning strike at Cologne/Bonn Airport. According to a Verdi spokesman, workers in goods and freight control have been on strike since Wednesday evening and in passenger control since Thursday morning. “Participation has remained high even after the strikes in recent months. This shows the employees’ attitude towards the employer’s offer,” said the union spokesman.

One is very satisfied with the warning strike in the night. Almost 100 people came to a rally on Wednesday evening. Around 100 employees are also expected for a rally on Thursday morning. Goods control workers are on strike until midnight on Friday, and passenger control workers until Saturday morning.

Hardly any passengers were to be seen at the airport on Thursday night and in the morning, as the airport announced. The early announcement would have given many guests time to prepare for the warning strike. According to the airport, 64 take-offs and 57 landings were canceled for Thursday. More may follow. Flights to Austria are also affected by the strikes.

Verdi has also called on employees in the aviation security area, in passenger control, personnel and goods control and in service areas at Düsseldorf and Hamburg airports to go on all-day warning strikes. The airport association ADV expects that around 700 flights nationwide will have to be canceled on the two days of the strike.

The background to this is the negotiations between Verdi and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies about time supplements for night, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday work, as well as a regulation on overtime pay for security and service staff. Negotiations are scheduled to continue on April 27th and 28th.
