Lima.-A tragic traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of this Monday morning left at least 11 people dead and several injured, including a barely five-month-old baby.
This following the mistake and overturning of a bus from the Transportes Turismo Universal company that was traveling on the Puno – Cusco route. The accident took place around 2:40 am at kilometer 1170+500 of the PE-3S highway, in the district of Santa Rosa, province of Melgar, Puno.

After the accident became known, the Superintendency of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Goods (Sutran) reported that it immediately activated its attention protocols and began coordination with the National Police of Peru (PNP) and the Emergency Operations Center ( COE) of Health Puno to clarify the causes of the incident.
Likewise, he reported that the vehicle that served the Puno-Cusco route had the necessary authorization to operate this type of service, issued by the General Directorate of Transportation Authorizations of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC).
In addition, it was confirmed that the vehicle had mandatory traffic accident insurance (SOAT) and a current technical inspection, fundamental elements to guarantee safety in the transportation of passengers.
For its part, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) communicated through X (formerly Twitter) that the 11 victims were initially treated at a medical facility managed by the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Ayaviri.
But, given the severity of the injuries, 5 of the injured were later transferred to the Juliaca Hospital to receive specialized care. This is in order to guarantee access to adequate procedures and care.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), in the last three years, the country has recorded a total of 527 deaths and 1,055 injuries as a result of accidents on interprovincial highways.
