The information was released this Monday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to journalists. “Until they are all out of the country, they are not all out of danger, but they are all out of the conflict zone”, said Gomes Cravinho, in Porto, to participate in a business forum that will bring together Brazilian and Portuguese businessmen, where the President of the Brazil, Lula da Silva, and the Prime Minister, António Costa.
The minister rejected any delay in the withdrawal of citizens, recalling that there are still hundreds of Europeans in the country. Most are being routed to Djibouti and some to Egypt. “We are seeing if it makes sense to send an air vehicle from the Portuguese Air Force or if, on the contrary, it is possible to come with other planes from allies to closer places such as Madrid or Paris, and the Air Force will pick them up there”, he added. .
Of the Portuguese identified as living in Sudan, there was one who wanted to stay in the country. “The Portuguese who decided to stay did it by choice and are in an area where there are no conflicts”
Since April 15, there have been violent clashes in Sudan, in a conflict between the forces of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, the country’s de facto leader since the 2021 coup, and a former deputy who has become a rival, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who commands the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The provisional balance of the clashes indicates that there are more than 420 dead and 3,700 wounded, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
