So far, no details have been released regarding the exact case in which they want to be heard.
The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office summoned Gábor Iványi as a suspect
– announced on Wednesday morning the Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood (MET). They wrote that the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office is waiting for Iványi at nine o’clock in the morning on March 28, that is, Thursday, but the prosecutor’s office did not provide them with any information regarding the details of the suspicion.
“During the week, ten more of our senior colleagues were summoned as witnesses by the Central Investigation Department of the Directorate General of Crime of the NAV, and another colleague of ours is being investigated by the tax inspectorate,” they wrote. The MET added that the Curia recently approved the prosecution’s motion, thus revoking their registered church status. “We filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court, no decision has been reached yet.”
In their announcement, they wrote that they are fighting with all possible means to operate and maintain their institutions, and are trying to negotiate and reach an agreement with the relevant state institutions.
István Ónodi, the economic director of MET, was released from pre-trial detention on March 23. He can defend himself at large, but he cannot leave Budapest. The prosecution suspects him of budget fraud exceeding HUF 6.5 billion.
We previously wrote regarding how, a few months ago, the NAV granted a suspension of execution to the Oltalom Karitatív Egyesület and transferred the one percent donations, more than HUF 71 million. In the meantime, the Ministry of the Interior sent official inspection groups of 10-12 people to their institutions throughout the country, “saying that since we don’t pay, we certainly don’t carry out our agreed tasks.”
At the beginning of this year, the Klebelsberg Center announced that the General Assembly of the Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood (MET), led by Gábor Iványi, decided to hand over the Wesley János Kindergarten, Primary School, High School and Elementary Art School operating in five settlements to the state.
