Kiwi growers in Pieria are in despair. High winds, on Good Friday, found the plants in bloom, destroying much of the production. The farmers are asking for an amendment to the ELGA regulation, so that they can be compensated.

The president of the Agricultural Cooperative PESCO, Ilias Grinias, shows to the ERT3 camera the damage caused by the M. Paraskevi windstorm to the productions of three villages of the Municipality of Dion Olympos. Kiwi damage is up to 80% and will be more visible in the coming days.

The farmers are asking for the ELGA regulation to be changed so that all damaging causes, which deprive the possibility of production, are covered.

The cultivation of kiwifruit is a dynamic crop for the region as 40 to 45% of the Greek production is produced in Pieria alone.
