“at 56, she looked 80”

A true icon of French cinema, Simone Signoret is today the subject of a play imagined by her grandson, Benjamin Castaldi. Questioned by “Télé Star”, the one who plays the actress on stage was quite straightforward with the character she plays.

Born on March 25, 1921, Simone Signoret entered the history of French cinema. Having won the prestigious Best Actress Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959, for her role in the film called The Paths of the Upper Town, Simone Signoret then became the first French actress to be awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for the same role, at the 32nd Academy Awards the following year. The actress will also receive the César for best actress in 1978, for her performance in the film entitled The life ahead. During her life, Simone Signoret notably shared the life of the actor Yves Montand. It was precisely during his union with the Oscar-winning actress that the latter began an extramarital relationship with his playing partner, Marilyn Monroe.

This episode in the lives of Simone Signoret and Yves Montand was the subject of a play which was performed on the stage of the Théâtre de la Madeleine in Paris.
