ASUS Zenfone 10 was officially launched in the global smartphone market and it arrived with the mission of being a top of the line compact.

Therefore, it has Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 50 MP main camera and IP68 certification. That is, it is up to many other devices in its category, despite the recycled design.

But can he “go head to head” with Xiaomi 13 or Galaxy S23? That’s what we’re going to try to find out in this hands-on.

design and accessories

The Zenfone 10 is a beautiful smartphone, but it can confuse the most unsuspecting users. That’s because we have here a recycled design similar to what ASUS has already delivered in the previous generation.

This little-big smartphone has a slightly rough texture on the back that helps with the grip. So, in addition to easily fitting small hands, the Zenfone 10 won’t slip out.

Another interesting detail is that the body of the smartphone has straight sides with a small notch on the side where the power and volume buttons are located. This kind of indentation makes the use more ergonomic.

In addition, at the rear we have two loose cameras and a solitary LED flash on the side. At the bottom there is the SIM tray next to the USB-C port and an audio output.

While the top part holds the much-acclaimed P2 port for wired headphones. Speaking of the front, we have a panel that has a hole in the upper left corner to accommodate the selfie camera.

The edges of the display are almost symmetrical and don’t bother, but of course the bottom one is still a little thicker than the others. The smartphone still has IP68 certification to ensure water resistance and has stereo sound.

In its box we have the smartphone, USB cable, manuals, charger and a case.

screen and hardware

On the Zenfone 10 we have a 5.9-inch OLED panel that supports a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz. In everyday life you will notice that the panel operates most of the time at 120 Hz.

ASUS itself goes so far as to explain that the rate will only reach 144 Hz in games. But it must be said here that we are not talking about a full LTPO. The rate should vary between 60, 90 and 120 Hz in automatic mode.

As it is an OLED panel, the Zenfone 10 delivers good color calibration with that deep black already known in the category and also has a brightness of 1000 nits, making the device the least bright in the flagship segment.

In the field of performance, we have here the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. That is, the most powerful that you can buy in the Android universe until July 2023.

This Qualcomm platform works with up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. In practice, with Zenfone 10 it is possible to run any game from the Play Store in maximum quality.

In the field of autonomy, we have a battery of 4,300 mAh with support for charging 30W in wired mode and 15W wirelessly. In everyday life you will notice that the Zenfone 10 will charge faster, but this is the result of a smaller battery.

Finally, the Zenfone 10 has a 5G connection, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC for proximity payments and Wi-Fi 7. In other words, a very complete set of connectivity.

Software

The Zenfone 10 comes out of the box running Android 13 as the operating system and here ASUS does not bring excessive software modifications.

This interface has a side menu similar to Samsung’s Edge screen that opens applications in windowed mode.

In daily use, we have a good performance here and, as mentioned earlier, the brand incorporates a series of special settings for games within its interface.

Thus, you can make some titles run at 144 Hz, you can see the CPU and GPU usage while playing, disable all notifications so you won’t be disturbed, and you can even record your main moves.

A cool detail also includes the ability to run the game in a small window in picture-in-picture mode while browsing the interface.

That is, if you like to play games and don’t have the money to buy a ROG Phone, perhaps the Zenfone 10 can be an interesting choice for delivering the same software at a more affordable price.

Cmeras

Like many competing flagships, the ASUS Zenfone 10 also has a 50-megapixel main rear camera that brings optical image stabilization.

The secondary sensor is a 13-megapixel ultrawide with 120 degrees. In everyday life you will notice that the Zenfone 10 manages to capture good photos with this main camera.

In this device we have images with good color calibration and noticeable details. The same can also be said for photos taken with the ultrawide lens, but it is clear that it tends to distort the edges.

This is already common in this type of sensor and ASUS didn’t care much about changing this detail. Even so, it is important to highlight that in the preliminary tests it was possible to notice that the company made an effort to standardize the results here.

In the field of recording, the Zenfone 10 brings a special mode for hyper stabilization as a great novelty, but you can also choose the adaptive option. It also records in 4K at 60 frames or 8K at 24 fps.

The Zenfone 10’s front camera is 32 megapixels and delivers 8 megapixel photos thanks to pixel compression.

This sensor will guarantee you good photos on a daily basis without overdoing those automatic beautification modes. In video recording, ASUS does not support 4K resolution, limiting it to 1080p.

First impressions and prices

The Zenfone 10 has not yet been officially launched here in Brazil, but we already know its promotional price in Europe. Over there, it costs € 849 for the version with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.

In practice, we are talking about R$ 4,410 in direct conversion and without considering those Brazilian taxes. Leaving aside the question of price in Brazil, we can say that the Zenfone 10 is indeed a good smartphone when we look at its technical sheet and even its price abroad.

That’s because we have a compact, elegant and well-built smartphone in our hands, something that can be an important differentiator for anyone looking for a small and different cell phone. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is also the most powerful currently and with it you have the best in the Android universe.

Despite the cameras being more positioned for a premium intermediary, the other specifications of the Zenfone 10 manage to stand out. The well-resolved software worthy of a ROG Phone is also another very important highlight.

That is, there is nothing to discredit the choice for the Zenfone 10. It manages to compete on an equal footing with the standard Galaxy S23 or the Xiaomi 13. Even its smaller battery is something that you can overlook when you take the price into account him outside.

I say abroad because it certainly won’t be that cheap here in Brazil. Therefore, let’s give it time and wait for the full review to bring more details of the Zenfone 10.

The Asus Zenfone 10 is not yet available in Brazilian stores. To be notified when it arrives.
